Eighteen of our members went to Duncan on Saturday, December 3, 2005 to take part in a "combination" of tournaments including the Karate BC Playoffs and the BC Winter Games Tryouts. For four of our members (Kaitlyn Dawe, Brendon Flower, Ben Norbury, and Danny Riches), taking part in both events was much tougher than usual, with most of them performing kata and kumite several times each. In addition, the Winter Games Tryouts grouped all belt levels (White through Black), making for some very tough competition. In the end, Brendon and Danny were successful at winning a ticket to the Winter Games.
Onto the Karate BC Playoffs... Our group returned triumphant yet again and, once again, we were dazzled with some great performances (even when no medals were won) and awed at some incredible upsets and determination. Our eighteen members returned with a total of twenty-nine medals, including fifteen gold, five silver and nine bronze. Fantastic!
Once again, we beat our last record in double gold performances. Four of our members (Andrew Cowan, Alysia Lan-Phavongkham, Joshua McIntosh and Carah Webster) came away with double gold and one (Danny Riches) with triple gold and a silver.
The grit, support and camaraderie displayed by every member of our club was great to see and made me very proud. Thank you all for your efforts!
