It was another outstanding performance from our members in the 2005 Island Spring Karate Championships. The yearly event hosted by the Duncan Chito-Ryu club, is an excellent run event by our friends in Duncan, BC.
Clubs from various karate styles came from all over the Island and the Lower Mainland to join in a competitive, yet friendly, tournament.
Twenty three of our members participated and thirty nine medals were won; 11 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze (twenty two members won at least one medal each, with some winning as many as three medals).
Watching our members compete, we witnessed many personal bests. Time and again many of our members pleasantly surprised us with excellent performances. Way to go guys.
A highlight to "kick-off" the tournament happened in the girls 9 years and under -- all belts. Victoria Renshikan swept the matte, taking every medal in the field of eight competitors.
